Why study humanities? “Humanities” usually refers to works of art such as painting, sculpture, architecture, literature. Besides, music, dance, and theatre as well. These are fields that reflect human personality. There is a particular emphasis on personal expression. But, it is true that art is a part of the world of humanities. Etymologically, humanities comes from the Latin word “humanus”. Which means “human, cultured, and sophisticated”.

The qualities of rationality, benevolence, and care must be well-cultured and refined. Good taste and manners are the hallmarks of good education. They are expressed in all thoughts and actions centered on human interests. Along with ideals, values, and feelings as well. In the humanities, people seek answers to the most fundamental questions about themselves. Also find the world in which they live. Moreover, the humanities study people and their ways of behaving from the time of their existence to the present.

Knowledge, the humanities, are made up of academic disciplines. Which distinguish them from the physical, biological, and social sciences in both content and method. The study of the humanities is dedicated to understanding phenomena within human culture. The humanities study how people process and record human experience. They use philosophy, literature, religion, art, and history as ways of understanding people. The humanities study how an individual’s human experience changes as it is recorded. And how these ways of recording create connections among people throughout time.
